I pose the question following confirmation that one of the teams entered this year has been commissioned by LRM (Land Rover Monthly) to write a major article covering Landy Rally 2009.
This being the case there are still several mags out there that may well be willing to cover the event -
4x4 Magazine: http://www.4x4i.com
4x4 Mart: http://www.4x4mart.co.uk
4x4 & MPV Driver: http://www.4x4andmpvdriver.co.uk
LRE (Land Rover Enthusiast): http://www.landroverenthusiast.com
LROI (Land Rover Owner International): http://www.lro.com
LRW (Land Rover World): http://www.landroverworld.co.uk
Total Off Road: http://www.toronline.co.uk
Any Dutch 4x4 magazines - I'm not sure?
There are also several French and German publications if you speaka der lingo, so for the foreign teams or those based abroad, these are another possibility.
Unlike a regular overseas expeditions or foreign holidays/tours, Landy Rally being a "charity drive with off-roading" they are more likely to listen and give you a chance for a 'first time article'. If you're lucky you may even get paid for the article (don't expect a lot however) and ask them nicely, they may even be willing to chuck in a few pennies sponsorship-wise. I'd go for the full monty and ask them to sponsor your fuel OR cover the cost of your ferry OR if you're running a raffle or fund-raising night for your charity they could donate a year's subscription to their magazine. You never know until you ask. Also I would mention that LRM are already covering LR'09. Knowing the rivalry between the mags, this should spur them on to do even bigger and better spread in their publication.
One final thing, don't be put off by the fact you can't spell or are bad at grammar. They are looking for interesting, humorous, factual content and some decent photos, so couldn't care if you have a BA in English Grammar or not. Besides, they have staff writers who will polish your raw article into a flowing piece, that's what they are paid for. Journalists and professionals they have aplenty, what they want is raw enthusiasm and 'human-interest' stories, this
you can provide.
So, to get your team guaranteed coverage in a mag (good for your sponsors don't forget) all you have to do is contact the Editors and grovel!
GOOD LUCK!
