| I hadn't, but I have now. Very funny, brilliantly exectued. Good find Yoda.
Now try the classic, something Jaap won't have seen before (difficult, but his English is good enough to understand I am sure) ...

Very clever. Don't seem to have humour like that these days, must be getting old! Shut it Kieran, no need to agree.

- Hey Tom,
Maybe you like this one better; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxYBceSNUrM Not even in the same league as the Blackberry or Four Candles sketches. I realise it doesn't help that I don't get on with American humour, but that aside that terriost routine is 'ordinary' by comparison. Give me Billy Connolly any day. Trouble is that in mainland Europe TV viewers are force-fed a diet of U.S. sitcoms, so generally that is the only English language humour they know. Spike Milligan Dave Allen Python Fawlty Towers Blackadder ... now they are funny. American comics like Jerry Seinfeld, Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby and shows like Cheers and Friends I have never got into. Too much whooping, cheering and applauding every time somebody enters or leaves the room doesn't help, but the humour just isn't the same as ours. As for the canned laughter ... grrrrrr!!! Don't get me started. Each to their own.

| Apart from Python Fawlty Towers Blackadder they were not my cup of tea, Les Dawson, Norman Wisdom, Morecombe and Wise, now going to show my age Arther Askey, Mr Pastry. Am sure like me you could name a few more, | |

| "Trouble is that in mainland Europe TV viewers are force-fed a diet of U.S. sitcoms, so generally that is the only English language humour they know." That is not really the case. A whole lot of English comedies were or are on tv overhere, not only in Holland btw. Among them Fawlty Towers, Are you beeing served, Blackadder, Dads army, Allo Allo (very nice) and a lot of John Cleese, Benny Hill and others. Nevertheless the humor appreciated and used overhere isn't the same as in Brittain, this isn't provoced by American tv. The aprreciation of American humor is the reason it is broadcasted. Wouldn't we like it: too little viewers, too little revenues: so no broadcasting

| I stand corrected. Now you see that's where I have gone wrong. The main Continental country I know is France, hence the American TV programmes which they are more likely to dub or subtitle into French. I should have realised that so many Dutch speak English, there are bound to be a fair number of British TV comedies shown in Holland. Think we should all watch Mr Bean, wouldn't need subtitles at all - truly international. Tomb Raider was on the other night, that Angelina Jolie is sexy - what a figure! I wonder what a combination of Mr Bean and Lara Croft would look like ... Mmmmmm, perhaps not! | |
