Land Rover coffers! Empty
PostSubject: Land Rover coffers!   Land Rover coffers! Icon_minitimeWed Jul 25, 2007 5:35 pm

Greetings all,

Well, having just returned from 'Svitzer'land and some weekend glacial skiing - if you get the chance to visit the Matterhorn, DO, it's fabulous....anyway.........back to Rally business......

I have returned home to find my fundraising pack from Diabetes UK and my entry pack from Tom cheers

I have also been having one or two conversations with some chaps from LR (do the initials PP ring any bells anyone??) and I am now on the rampage to gain some kind of sponsorship from LR directly for this worthy event. Aside from the usual flags / sticker type logos etc, what sort of things should I be asking for - in other words, what do we need collectively which would prove useful on this event?? Answers on a virtual postcard to the bottom of this post please.

On a totally non-rally related topic - I have decided to get the RRS S/C uprated!! As from Tuesday next week, power will increase from 400Bhp to approx. 450Bhp which should let me lose about 1 second (untested as yet) - the chaffeur will report on the power gain soon after fitting. I will instruct him to post on the relevant forums.

This takes me close (er) to fugly Cayenne Turbo territory, albeit still about 0.5 sec slower Shocked . At least my car will still look better in his rear view mirror!! lol!

Hope all is well with the fellow teamsters.

Toodle pip for now.

Snooty.

One hellava question that, now let me see …

1. For starters, a couple of fleet vehicles for two weeks – Defender, Disco, Freelander, RR or RRS (not fussy) – for yours truly and my Event Manager. Need these to round up all those stray teams that get lost in the Alps or Pyrenees. G4’s would be good, but any expedition-prepared LR’s are perfectly acceptable! Seriously though, we do need two reliable vehicles (expedition-prepared or bog standard) as our elderly RR Classics could be a bit of a gamble. If nothing develops, we simply go with what we have got. C’est la vie!

2. LR could donate a Land Rover Experience ‘Adventure Day’ to each of the Landy Rally teams? The idea being they could auction off the Days to the highest bidder, all proceeds of course going to each team’s nominated charity/good cause?

3. Or maybe LR could donate some prizes for prize-giving at Calais? These could be anything from a little flat-capped LR bear to a ‘Specialist Activity’ in some exotic location like Africa or Asia. Nah, probably end up at Solihull. Joking aside, a VIP factory visit would also be an excellent prize. Or perhaps just one or two really good prizes for the ‘Spirit of the Event’ and/or ‘Best Charitable Contribution’.

4. Sponsorship in the form of ‘Dealership Support’ in each of the 8 countries visited? Let’s say Team ?????????? breaks a differential whilst driving a deserted track in the Pyrenees. Our recovery vehicle would tow said vehicle to the nearest Land Rover franchise whereupon the dealership would repair the dead Land Rover providing parts and labour free of charge. This of course would never happen as we drive LR’s and they are indestructible, but if they ever did happen to go wrong en route, we would have the assurance of ‘Dealership Support’ to keep us on the move.

Failing that, a fully-kitted out G4 workshop 130 complete with two factory-trained mechanics + a host of basic spares following us around the 2,300 miles would do the trick!

5. How about Land Rover entering a team themselves? With factory-backing, both financial and vehicle-wise, someone like Alan Edwards of the Land Rover Club (the enthusiast’s club based within Land Rover itself) could pilot a vehicle which not only would provide more or less instant back-up, they could also raise funds for a charity nominated by the Land Rover Club or Land Rover Limited themselves.

Never short of ideas M’Lord, question is have you the connections to implement them?

Snooty.....

Its like writing a letter to Father Christmas.

I think Tom has pretty much covered it.

A couple of vehicles of what ever type would be superb - press dept or maybe a couple of ex demo vehicles or even a couple of ex rentals (not sure if rentals are done straight from factory or not before being put into the used dealership pool)

Finges crossed for pressies under the tree.

Good luck with the upgrade to RRS

I know that when we asked we got a polite but firm... bugger off!!

We were told that (appart from internal LR things, G4 etc etc) they only sponsor a few choice events. Burghley Horse Trials and some Rugby thing from memory...

However, it cant hurt to ask again...

Well. What to say.

It seems I come bearing b***er all gifts. I tried my best, but on this occasion, I have come away with absolutely nothing.... Shocked

Tried 3 different angles, basically begged, begged and just in case they did not understand, begged once more. All they could offer me was 2 poxy LR banners aka flag things. Very, very disappointed indeed.

A fastidious approach was taken and an obtuse ***ole just kept saying budgets are tight, etc etc. :alien:

I took advantage of the flag things anyway as they may come in handy for cars or meeting places although the way I am feeling after that response is I should have maybe spent my £very expensive amount£ elsewhere!!!!! Only kidding, as if...imagine an X5 rally...we would all be stuck at the 1st off road junction Laughing

Anyway, apologies for not bearing great gifts (as I had hoped), I guess that means one less Xmas card to send this year....and at the end of the day, we will ALL still have a fantastic Rally. cheers

Nice try mate, but the fact is we are undertaking the wrong type of challenge in which to gain support from Land Rover Limited. They, like every other company, do have tight budget restraints so unless you decide to do the event on horseback, you've no chance of obtaining backing.

The fact is LR Ltd. have for a long time backed equestrian and country pursuits-type events, with a bit of TV/film product placement thrown in for good measure, while motoring events will always take a back seat. In recent times however they have diversified by supporting 'wildlife' charities such as Born Free, but again dedicated motoring events such as Landy Rally are way down the PR list.

Take it on the chin mate. When you think about it, every registered charity in existence has a some time or another tried to 'acquire' - no, let's say it like it is - BLAG a free vehicle or equipment off LR/Mitso/Isuzu/whoever for their particular good cause, not to mention people like me who have raced and competed in Land Rovers since the year dot so are always after sponsorship, plus folk like yourself raising funds for worthy causes. Keep giving stuff away to us lot, there wouldn't be enough for the showrooms! Been there, done it, didn't get the T-shirt ... at least you got a couple of flags to show for your effort; lucky b*****r!!!
