| Hello..... "white background 16” square minimum", has anyone come up with something sensible here? I've been my brains here, when I take this white square off after the rally, I would like some paint still left on. All help gratefully received, Thank you, Mark | |

| Easy – when you know where to look! They are used in all forms of motorsport, + car club events such as scatter rallies, gymkhanas, historic car parades, etc. The vinyl has a special adhesive that can easily be removed after the event with a heat source such as a hair dryer (best not use a paint stripper like a mate of mine - you can guess the result) so avoids paint damage. Have a look at sites like http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk or any motorsport product website. Either that or go and buy a white Land Rover | |

Many thanks, I assume it's the "Novice Squares"?
Best regards, Mark | |

| Not sure as they don't list a size the Novice Squares.
The numbers supplied will be 11" high (that's 280mm I believe although they don't sate it) so I would go for the round 450mm dia white background. Unless I'm wrong of course - if so TELL ME!
BTW, don't you just love the way companies mix up decimal and imperial measurements and weights. Look at the labels in Tescos and the beer will be X pence per litre on one label, move along a bit and it will state XXXXXXX brand of beer is the equivilent of 50p a pint. And millilitres ... what's that all about? Same with the weights - one pack of meat will be in grammes, the next they are talking about £X per lb. Crazy!!!

| Hi Tom,
These vinyl backgrounds, phoned the company, and basically your right, the "Novice Squares" are only about 8" square, and are yellow with a black cross, denoting a "Novice". makes sense!
The 450mm (18") round ones would be plenty, the link is;

| Perhaps you should have one of those Novice thingamajigs! The round ones will be fine, besides, they can always be cut down if required. As long as they are bigger than the 11" numbers, that's all we need. | |

| here's a crafty idea, as i presume most of us are charity rasing, or at least having sticker etc on the landy's, i've asked my graphics folk if they can do it, and he offered me a bit of left over white vinyl stuff.
If peple are having trouble getting it, i'll ask him how much he ca ndo a load of 16" white squares for, and let you all know??

| Hi Tom,
Where are we, with these 16" white squares?
Do we still need them? Have they been replaced with something else?
Chers, Mark | |

| Yes, although a smaller version is acceptable. Most teams are still applying them and as suggested these are now being utilised for the charities/good causes they are supporting. Here they can list the charity, the website, a very brief description of what the charity is all about, the charity's motto, its logo ... whatever! It's completely up to you. All I know is us off-roaders / 4x4 owners are constantly getting a bad press, so when we do something positive, instead of being all demure and British about it we should shout it from the rooftops. It's good for the charities, it is good for us - nothing wrong in that. Believe me, if the boot was on the other foot and we were seen by the anti's to do something wrong - 'carbon emissions', 'trashing the countryside', 'killer bull-bars' or whatever their campaign is this particular month - then they wouldn't be slow at coming forward. Besides, I'm proud of the charity fund-raising I've done over the years, so I don't mind telling the world! Yes, we still need the white squares. | |

| Thanks Tom.
But what are we using for displaying the LandyRally numbers?
Cheers, Mark | |

| Oh I see. Sorry, but I amended the competition numbers rule some two months back (just realised the website has not been updated - I'll remedy this ASAP) as the German police 'escorted' 132 vehicles to the nearest port and chucked them out of the country! Okay, it wasn't a charity drive, it was a gumball-type affair with Ferraris, Astons and suchlike zooming about all over the place, but as we could so easily get tarred with the same brush I'm not taking any chances - no numbers.
Whilst on the recce I met the organiser of the Cannonball Run who filled me in on the details. Seems any vehicle with large competition numbers on the doors will fall foul of the Polizei, hence the need for discretion.
Still got to make a final decision, but if we do have numbers they won't be 11" high as stated in the rules, but something much more subtle. Therefore ignore the numbers rule Mark, just concentrate on the charity logos, etc.
