Just stumbled about another nice Rally, maybe the startline is a little to far for you English, still it is a nice one and reasonable in price.

Yet another 'old banger' rally! Got to say I hadn't even heard of this one. Not surprising as there are loads of these now popping up all over the place. Africa must be littered with old cars from Europe at the end of their useful life, but of course the Africans will get another few years out of these old crocks. Then again, with their record on safety ...

I personally am planning on going back to Africa in 2011, in the Range Rover camper of course. Libya and Egypt is the plan, but it won't be a race, rally or competition of any sort. As mentioned before, I want to retrace the route taken during the battle of El Alamein and other battles of the WWII desert campaign. Apparently there is an El Alamein Museum in Egypt, then there are the cemeteries where one has to pay their respects, and then hunting for allied and axis armour which is still littered about the Northern Sahara. Reckon it will take a good month, so better start saving!

'Banger rallies' are okay, but (and I just know I'm going to sound old here) they have too many teenagers on them with no respect for those around them or the countries they are passing through. It's like a load of English football fans on wheels at times, 'the youf' as they call themselves, all drunk and stupid on a couple of litres of strong Continental larger. Not for me, Africa in 2011 with a few good friends is the way to go!!! cheers

Fancy an African adventure Jaap/Henk?

Hmm... I'd go back to Egypt. One of the more worrying thing about the country is that outside of the cities, everyone drives like Tom Smile

We sure would like a dessert adventure. But the way we are today, we both can't get a whole month off. Maybe if we're old Smile
Nevertheless, keep me posted, You'll never know

Well, the timescale could be cut down if we were to drive your Landy there and back, then all you would have is fly to/from the start and finish points. That would save a good 8 days minimum!

See, despite what they say, I am an organiser!!! cheers

No problemo, it'll be something else to chat about when we visit the 'Land of the Dykes' in May. Wink

Any others fancy a desert adventure in 2011?

Mmmm, think you did mention this once or two hundred times! Smile

You'd like Bedouin hotels though, they are big tents.
