Wales driver jailed
A rather sobering tale...
Daily Mail: 23rd august 2010
A police community support officer has been jailed over the death of a schoolgirl drowned on an adventure holiday.
Louise Ferreira, 17, was on a trip to celebrate her GCSE exam results - travelling in a convoy of 4x4 vehicles 'green-laning' through wild countryside.
But PCSO Brian Johnson, 46, 'recklessly' tried to cross a flooded river in his LandRover carrying Louise and his niece in the back.
A court heard the force of the water swept the LandRover away - drowning passenger Louise.
Johnson, of Belvedere, Kent, was jailed for two years for causing the death by careless driving of Louise at a beauty spot in the mid-Wales countryside.
The court heard he was driving one of three 4x4 off-roaders attempting to drive the length of Wales public tracks.
'Green-laning' is an activity popular with 4x4 drivers which sees them take their vehicles off-road on ancient unsurfaced tracks.
