From a seasoned veteran of Landy Rally's I'm sure you will enjoy it. Just don't expect it to be easy ! You are covering 3000 miles in 9 days so there is a lot of driving involved ! Plus 7am starts are not uncommon ! If you are prepared for the long days then you should have a great time . Plus when you get back to Calais its quite a sense of achievement. BTW Get a tent you can put up in minutes ! If you do get delayed you really dont want to spend hours putting up a tent when you could be asleep !!!

| Thanks people, I hope I can hold my own out there. Im usually up at 5:30 for work and I drive my truck on average 220 miles a day and as long as I dont have to make deliveries or deal with customers. I have got but not road tested yet a pop up tent. Never managed to get it back in the little round bag. Mum can though. Mums are great. Think I will start thinking of poss sponsors now. Any tips? Good evening to all James. | |

| Don't know about sponsors, but my tip is for the pop up tent. After opening mine on the first day, I never totally fold it again and zip it back up in its bag until departing for England. In the mornings on the event, fold it once - that bit is super easy - and bungee it so it doesn't spring open by mistake, then being the last item to pack, simply place the damp/wet tent in the back of your Landy on top of your boxes/bags and strap it down with the aid of two diagonal bungees. Problem solved! All the kit (including the tent) is securely strapped down, tent half-folded and stowed all in a couple of minutes, now able to dry out throughout the day. In fact my co-driver John and myself got the operation down to under a minute!!! | |

| Marc is quite good with folding the pop up tent away ! We never have enough room in the vehicle not to put it (them) away properly and once you have the knack of folding it up it takes up a lot less space ! Also we don't carry quite as many bungees as Tom seems to! | |

Ask Marc about cable ties and flag poles ! On this years rally we stopped on the outskirts of Valkenburg to take the big flag pole down and Marc managed to split his finger open. It was at this point we discovered that the first aid kit had been drowned in muddy water at some point and was full of dried muddy dust !! Memo for next time open first aid kit before checking its in Lenny !

| Sylvia, Sylvia. If I remeber correctly the same thing happened before Rally09. as you were cleaning the car you found the box the same way. Maybe you'd better attache it to the ceiling. | |

| Why would Sylvia want to attach her finger to the ceiling? | |

| Jaap In 2009 I actually managed to get my hands on Lenny before we went on the rally ! This year I only really saw him during the last week at 1.30am on the Friday Morning and we where leaving at 6am ! So yes we had a first aid kit but I didn't look inside it ! By the way the water came from Holymoorside ! | |

| MM, beter check my snorkel then and make sure we bring watertight shoes. Still first-aidbox is mounted above drowninglevel. I'm almost sure that's the last piece of equipment we do need. Rather have the winchhook placed on a high point. Don't want to search for that in cold, muddy water | |

| Spot on. So many drivers have winches yet forget about the hook. Where does it end up? Under water, deep in the mud or snow, everywhere but where you actually need it. That's good forward planning Jaap. | |

| Yep, same way as me as I tried to attach a shackle on the back of a Range Rover in order to tow a Landy out of the middle of the River Thames. Honestly, it was bang in the middle ... and obviously so was I to rescue him.
At Teddington, West London every January they close the locks and drop the level of the river in order to dredge that section (right by Ell Pie Island) so we used to take the opportunity to drive in the river. Wasn't too deep, just over the wheels. Unfortunately my mate found a big hole smack in the middle, so he drowned his engine as the nose disappeared under the surface.
Great fun but bloody cold on the hands in the freezing cold water. Now like Jaap, I tend to attach a rope before venturing into such situations; it's a whole lot easier.

| I still have the video of that somewhere - i wonder how difficult it would be to get it digitised so i could put it up on you tube?
So Funny!
I think the entire video is near 45 minutes - it might need a little editing! ;o)
