| We are Back Home ! Well What Can we say except an ENORMOUS THANK YOU to Henk and Henriette for making us so welcome at their home. To Jaap for organising the two days trips. I really enjoyed the boat trip around Dies BeisBosch. Once again my memory of Henk's steaks had not deceived me The steak was really really excellent ! Thanks also to Nick, Mi-Lou, Annabelle and Merle for giving up their weekend to entertain us. It was lovely to meet up with Jeremy and Marja (The Dream Team) again and also to meet up with Nick and Maxine (sorry if I spell this wrong) (The Rally Dogs). It is always good to meet the faces behind the names on the forum. We arrived in Dunkirk at about 1.45pm but they wouldn't let us onto the ferry so had to wait until 4pm. We finally arrived home very late, just in time to say hello to Kieran and James and then fall into bed. The tents etc are all still in Lenny and the Frontera ! Lastly thanks to Henriette for allowing me to use the guest room instead of finding a hotel. (On Thursday I felt so ill I wasn't going to make the trip) Your Dutch air has certainly helped me to recover ! Hope to meet up with you all again soon. | |

| Well said Sylvia! Ditto from me and 'er indoors too. Can't tell you how gratefull I am to the Kuipers and Van Tol clans to all the effort into making us all feel so welcome. It was great to see everyone again and also the new faces from Belgium! We did however miss Mr & Mrs Yoda, the Dirties, The Flintstones on the Sunday (Wilma was feeling poorly) and Kieran/James, Bonnie/Rosie. Hopefully next year eh folks? Thanks too go out to the Johnsons for bringing the 3 litre bottle of wine with them. Have to say it was the best tasting Anniversary present I've ever had the delight to sample!!! What goes around comes around? Well that bottle certainly did ... most of Europe! Sylvia - not so sure it was the Dutch air that helped you recover, more likely alcohol fumes! Last but not least, we managed to elude Dover customs with our cannabis plant. Be prepared to see McGuigan on the news soon as the authorities realise that electricity comsumption in the Bedworth area had tripled overnight! | |

| What was your journey home like? It took a lot longer than we expected as (a) we stopped for a kip at a motorway services, and (b) we got horribly lost! We actually left Henk’s at 12.40 but didn't arrive at the dunkirk ferry terminal at 17.30 (ferry departed at 18.00) leaving no time for wine/beer shopping!!! Don't forget we took the 'non-Antwerp route' as planned following the SatNav - big mistake - although I ought to clarify that statement. The route was fine, excellent even as the tunnel was only 4.50 euros and it was totally traffic-free, but we got lost heading towards Terneuzen (it is the Westerscheldtunnelweg on the N62 heading due south between Goes and Terneuzen). Great route and will take it in future as it totally avoids the horrors of the Antwerp ring road, but what I hadn’t realised was that my SatNav was still programmed to avoid toll roads when I had returned from Wayne’s place three weeks previously. Dur!!! This meant that when we wanted to head west to avoid Antwerp, the SatNav was going into hyper mode in an attempt to take us south via Antwerp. This went on right until the tunnel entrance as I was following signs and a map (stopping on motorways ain’t easy) when I finally realised why smoke was coming out of the extremely frustrated SatNav! Crazy!! For future reference ... Hardinxveld-Giessendam to Dunkirk (via Antwerp)02h29 of which 02h19 is on motorways 262 km of which 251 km is on motorways Hardinxveld-Giessendam to Dunkirk (via Terneuzen and the Westerscheldtunnelweg)03h03 of which 02h01 is on motorways 285 km of which 218 km is on motorways | |

| We ended up going back through the two smaller tunnels near Bergen op Zoom which was a toll road and apart from a small bit of ordinary road we were on motorways for much of the way. We had some queuing outside Dunkirk but got to the terminal with 15 mins to spare but having booked in they wouldn't let us on the ferry even though we were booked on it and it hadn't closed its doors so we had to wait for two hours in the carpark ! Had we known before we booked in we could have found a hypermarket or something.
And now we are back home again until the next adventure just not sure what or when yet !

Ouch! That's never happened before. You should have played the "we are sponsored by Norfolk Lines" card, it may have just swung it in your favour. I still have my Norfolk lines sticker on the Rangie ... just in case. Seriously going to look at the Hull-Rotterdam ferry option for next time. Looking at my diary, my next excursion will almost certainly be attending the Luxembourg Land Rover National 17-19 June. Thinking of booking a Trade Stand for Landy Rally. Jaap - is there a big Dutch 4x4 or Land Rover event coming up soon in Holland?

There is, but if it is handy? It's the same weekend as Luxembourg.
THANK YOU ALL for the nice comments. Glad you liked it again. Speaking for Henk and the rest too.

| Just my luck, it would be. Do you know the website details of the Dutch event? The Lux show is listed in 4x4Calendar. Might be able to spend a day at each. | |

| I saw that programme tonight, it was fascinating. First thing I learnt was that us calling the country 'Holland' is technically incorrect, 'cause out of the twelve provinces only two are called Holland. It definitely should be the Netherlands. Also I found the way they reclaimed the land very enlightening, plus I never knew there was an Indian unit in the Wehrmacht. As for the raw herrings! Found this on a website about herrings:- "In summer, directly after their arrival, most of the green herring are cleaned, sold and consumed at outdoor stalls and carts. Key is that the final cleaning takes place only when a customer presents himself. The raw fish is then offered with its tail left on, for the tail is used to hold the fish while the consumer lowers it into his mouth and consumes it bite by bite." NICE!!! | |

| Nice pics Tom. Good memories Will see if I can place one of last Sunday (was about the same) Saw Coast last night too. Funny to see. It's al normal to us. About the herring: the 7th of June the season started again. So indeed they are sold everywhere at stands. What you've found is correct. However it is a very delicate product. A lot of salesman don't bother to deliver a perfect and fresh product. They are tested by a newspaper, coming weekend the testresults will be in the paper. Always a lot to do about it. | |

| That herring festival looked interesting, especially the local alcohol drunk as an accompaniment to the herring. | |
