Well, this is it … the final post. Here lies the bones of Landy Rally, killed off by the world financial recession!
Truly the end of an era, a whole six years in total (1 year pre-event and 5 actual events from 2007-2011) - who would have thought that?
It has at times been a lot of hard work and sleepless nights (yes ... some of them self-inflicted!!!
) but speaking personally, this is far out-weighed by all the laughs we’ve had along the way … not to mention all the many friends we have also made. As for mountain of funds raised for a host of charities, well I’m truly staggered!
When I say “we”, I’m talking on behalf of all the officials and helpers who made Landy Rally such a success it was. It is to them I say – THANK YOU. It really would not have been possible without each and every one of you, so believe me you assistance was truly appreciated.
As for you, the participants, to all the teams and crews who had faith enough to enter this madcap event in the first place, give yourselves a massive ‘pat on the back’, you thoroughly deserve it … if only for putting up with me! It always was going to be a challenge driving over 3,000 miles in such a short space of time, let alone finding time to complete a bunch of daft tasks en route. How on earth you did it I really don’t know, yet somehow you managed it? Yes there were times where folk lost their cool, hardly surprising faced with my Roadbook and unseen hiccups along the way, but 99 times out of 100 you realised that life is all about making the best of a bad situation, and that is where the camaraderie, humor and teamwork really kicked in. I can tell you, we officials were really proud of you, especially when digging us – sorry, ME out of the mire! Again, I/we thank you one and all.
So, assuming Andybloke can sort it, this forum will locked down at 23:59 on 31st December 2011 – or thereabouts, he has a life too!!! It can however still be viewed, as it contains so much good information about preperation and planning (what to take and importantly - what not
to take), the travelling itself, etc.
If however anyone still wants to chat, there is always my “4x4 Overland Travel” forum at www.4x4overlandtravel.com where everyone is welcome. I know some ex-Landy Ralliers already post on there, so by all means join them.
So, to quote the immortal words of that influential character from modern history – Bugs Bunny – … “That’s all folks!”
