Just typical - 2 weeks to go and my brake pedal has suddenly decided to go solid and the brakes are virtually non existant. New pads and discs were fitted about 6 months ago and the brakes have been fine until now. They were fine one minute and gone the next....any ideas what would cause this?? Don't fancy hitting the Stelvio Pass with no brakes!! affraid affraid affraid

On a more positive note, recon gearbox from Ashcroft and new clutch just been fitted and gears now feel 100% better than before. Other than the brakes and a full service, we THINK we're more or less ready with all the suspect bits havin been changed with a view of prevention's got to be better than cure!! Here's hopin' as no doubt time will tell!!lol!

sounds like lack of vacume

check yer big flying saucer thingy.

If ye press hard on yer pedal then start engine the pedal should move a wee bitty.
If no, then tis yer servo.

If the brakes feel the same with the engine off as it does with the engine running, it's the servo or vac system.

The big black disc thing is the servo, it's connected to the engine by a rubber hose. If you take that off of the servo and start the engine, it should suck air into the vac pump on the engine - if it does have quite a strong vaccuum there, it's probably a servo fault. If it's not ....

There may be a T junction in that hose that goes to the cabin to operate the air duct valves. Disconnect that on the engine side, and see if there's a lot of suction on the hose that goes to the engine. If there isn't the vac pump's probably faulty. If there is suction, there could be an air leak in the heater control system.

Hope this helps!

Appreciate the guidance, hopefully I'll get it sorted for the weekend as we're collecting at Tesco on Saturday, if not I'll just carry a big anchor to throw out the back when I want to stop! lol!

Just goes to show that the tight Scots are not as tight as you may think (either that or we're very enthusiastic and very friendly!!) lol! ......5 hours at Tesco and a grand total of £502.46 plus a few foreign coins thrown in for good luck was raised. cheers cheers cheers cheers

PS Vacuum pump gone on brakes, new one coming Monday / Tuesday which should hopefully solve my "no brakes" problem
