| Arrrgh! Trying to get a baby seat in Red, ready for Friday. The seatbelts are too short by 3 inches! Have tried three seats now. The rear facing ones just don't fit in Anyone see any reason why I shouldn't move the seatbelt mounts by installing bolted in 45x4mm steel strips? | |

| Hi Andy, I do belive there are such things as seat belt extensions. I expect they cost an arm and a leg but I would have thought they fit the bill. Can't see why moving the mounts should be a problem, as long as they are still fixed securely and the belts still work. | |

| Just my opinion here and I dont know the law on this, but I always feel that altering seat fastenings and seat-belt fastenings is a dangerous thing to do...
Im not saying that the fastenings will be weaker than the originals, but in the case of something unforseen happening (God forbid) where would you stand re insurance and the law... Think Gresh...
My advice would be to do as LuckyTrucker suggests - bite the bullet and get the proper extenders... just in case.
Hope to see you at Driffield.

I'm unable to figure out how extenders could possibly work.... Surely all they could do is move the centre anchor point - which for a baby seat is bad, as it needs to be as low as possible to hold the base in place. The other option I came up with at lunchtime was to move the centre lap-belt to the existing nearside mounts (Only have 1 seat in the back, so have spare original belts) to secure the base, and then the regular strap, not having to attach to the base, just fits around the front of the seat. It's not ideal, as there's no automatic tentioning, but is a Quick Fix using only OE parts...

| Like you say, not ideal but I suspect that would be better than moving attachment points and stuff. | |

| Oh for heaven's sake, you have a roofrack man ... stick her up top. Fresh air will do her good!
Besides, where in the Highway Code does it say you can't strap a baby to a roofrack? No judge in the land could convict!

| Tom,
I understood Lucas was a little boy !!! So who do you plan to put on Andy's roofrack ???? Not Hannah I hope .....
Car seats must have changed a bit since Kieran sat in one - my biggest problem was stopping him undoing the straps and escaping !!! Not ideal going down the M1. Cling film might have been a better idea ! Apart from trying to fit them into a 1961 Ford Classic which doesn't have any seatbelts at all !
Fitting them into two different minibuses, an Orion or two, a Mondeo and an XJ6 or even a Nissan Micra or two never seemed to pose a problem.
Andy - Is Lucas reading the instruction manual on how to fit a car seat ?
