http://ferrysavers.com

This site saves time and money searching for ferries.

If anyone knows any others, please advise. Apart from the tunnel, or strapping to kayaks together, are there any other ways of crossing?

Not sure if hoverspeed ever made a comeback.

Cheers for any help, Mark

Excellent stuff mark!

As a Kayak and Canoe Coach, i have thought at great deal about the idea of getting to france that way, unfortuantly i can also be a realist!

I used to have a mate who flew Chinnoks in the RAF, might be worth an ask!!

Prob just get on the ferry though!

By the way, Train doesn't allow Gas powered vehicles, (don't think anyone here got one though)

Whilst on the ferry, they won't allow you to carry fuel cans with fuel in them. so have to be empty, and you may wel lbe asked to open them to prove it Sad Shame as my fuel sponsor onbly works in this country! ah well!

Hi,

"flew Chinnoks in the RAF" scratch Idea Going to the AIRTATTOO at fairford, might see if I can get a lift with a Herc, and parachute into the starting point. Always wanted to try that, probably land on the only pub and destroy it, knowing my luck. LOL

"won't allow you to carry fuel cans with fuel in them" Excellent didn't know that! Thanks.

Shame about your fuel sponsor, not sure if they allow full fuel cans on the tunnel, and if they did, probably wouldn't save you any £££, that being the high cost of the tunnel.

Cheers, mark

Just got a quote of £40.50 for a ferry from Dover to Calais with Direct Ferries. For the Landy me and the missus.
Best one I can find so far.

https://www.norfolkline-ferries.co.uk/EN/FAQ/Passenger_ferry/

One LPG cylinder is allowed by Norfolk Line.

http://www.poferries.com/tourist/content/pages/template/_footer_terms_&_conditions_terms_&_conditions.htm
Section 10.

P+O don't like fuel cans at all - even empty ones.
Gas upto 47kg (Excluding tanks) is allowed, but must be declared.

http://www.eurotunnel.com/ukcP3Main/ukcPassengers/ukcLegalInfo/ukcTermsAndConditions/

Chunnel don't like LPG vehicles, but cylinders that are less than 47kg AND less than 80% full may be carried.

Hi

We're going with Seafrance - £92 return for us two and the Disco on at 3pm ish sailing. I asked them on the phone and they said we can take jerry cans, as long as they are empty.

There's some good prices there.

Are people booking a fixed date return? Or an open-ended ticket? Such is a Landy's temperant (speaking personally of course!).

Batfink;

looking also at ferries from Portsmouth, but the difference in mileage the other side may be too great.

Cheers, everyone, Mark

Hello all,

Further to my last reply; worked out the cost of an amendable ticket, and it worked out more than a single to come back if needed.

So, with that in mind and clutching a couple of bottles of wine, met with my co-driver, Andy, and booked ferries. Smile

Dover/Calais with Seafrance £56.50

14 September 2007 @ 13:45

22 September 2007 @ 11:15

Are we there yet?! Very Happy

Further to my last post;

spoke with Seafrance directly;

http://www.seafrance.com/seafrance/opencms/uk/en/passenger/

very helpful, actually understood what a Landrover Series is, and class it as a car. And they seem happy with us carrying 4 empty jerricans.

Must remember this additional note about driving tips in France;
- Flashing your headlights means I am going first, not I give way!

affraid Note: to pack extra underware! Smile
