Probably not, but we're lugging a lot of electronics with us that all uses 12V. I think battery chargers may be a common trend - late arrivers may want to recharge over night if they used car lights to set up camp, or just plain top-up if they had difficulties.

| I like to trickle charge where possible just to maintaine the batteries, also as Andy points out, if lights are needed, be it spot/flood lights around the camp area, or work lights around a broken landy, then 230v is always useful.
Also of course if 230v, means a kettle can be used nice and simply.
All of course can be donw with 12v, just means if 230 available, it gives the batteries a rest, and heaven forbid a battery problem, or alternator issue crops up.....

The unit I've got is quite old - from a Ferranti electronics lab. There are smaller, probably more efficient, units about now. Check http://stores.ebay.co.uk/KitsNParts ... the Power section has upto 72A 12v supplies. HTH

| Hi there, well I'm sorted, me hampsters got his pet passport and I have a 12v genny attached to his wheel. It's all a bit tragic really my last hampster had a sudden death, he fell asleep at the wheel Seriously though, I don't know what all the fuss is about. I have a single battery on my Disco that will be charged up by running all day. I have a couple of battery lanterns, a 240v flourecent lead light, a Halfords fridge that will be run of the mains at night. I hope I don't have to eat my words, eternal optomist | |
