Cheap! No doubt about that, but no good for our event of course. By everyone starting with the same maps, it cuts down the margin for error considerably ... either that or we all go wrong together!!! Laughing

Or do what the Pukka Posse did last year.

Form a splinter group, ditch the road book on day 2, bin our paper maps then use sat-nav straight to the campsite bar. drunken

Running up huge phone bills while on Landy Rally!

The idea of using satnav to hop from campsite to campsite, rather than following the route, makes me wonder why bother spending all that money on fuel? There are much nicer campsites in the UK if you're after "drive, drink, set camp, sleep, repeat" trips. Pukka Posse missed some great driving by going to the motorways... Just seems a shame. (Especially as we were listening to your CB chatter about the slow traffic as we drove over the other side of the valley).

Mostly agree Andybloke, but not quite. The autoroutes are fine if (a) at times we really need to cover some distance thus allowing time to tackle some special tracks in the course of the day, or (b) mechanical problems mean a short cut is the only way to make up time. But under normal circumstances, teams are going to miss out on some awesome routes at times, even on the Nationals or B-roads. Put it this way, there's a damn reason I take off on a 2,500 mile reconnoitre to compile the Road Book!

That said, if a team's priority is a shopping expedition or making it to the bar first, who are we to say what's right or wrong; their choice after all.

Then there's teams like Monstar or Remember Chernobyl who made it their mission to drive every last track they could possibly find - whether it was in the Road Book or not.

End of the day, each to their own!

It is a fun event and non speed.

I use Sat nav when poss.
Pams a hopeless navvy.
She couldnt follow the motorway to Eastnor ther last Thursday.
And I had highlighted the motorway for her.

One can plug in the destination into the sat nav then follow the road books.
That way you are always aiming for the end.

Tis gonna be a fun week for sure.

CB banter?
Whats that as I am very shy and quiet.
