It seems Kieran's engine in Pinky has finally died, so he's after a bargain basement 200 Tdi motor ... if such a beast exists that is!

Any leads you have, please post on here. Ta!

Someone please find one quickly !! He's like a bear with a sore head at the moment. Sad Sad Sad

Stu in answer to your question from a none mechanically minded person the piston rings have disintegrated (so they tell me) . The timing belt snapped at Christmas and whilst he and Keith thought everything was ok it hasn't really been quite right ever since. We put it down to the turbo but that didn't really help and i think the Mac 4x4 Challenge finished it off.

No doubt Kieran will tell you more.

it wasnt caused by the timing belt, caused by driving to the moon and back,

it appears there is significant wear in the cylinders causing severe oil loss and high oil pressure, the irretating thing is that in november due to lack of power and oil loss i brought a newer turbo at the cost of £100 ( which i now dont think i needed ) also again the symptoms persisted so i got a recon turbo for £200 ( which i definatly dont need but will fit to next engine )

i will have the engine in pinky rebuilt when money allows ( could be a while ) but i still need a cheap good condition 200tdi to fit to a project vehicle, details of which will be presented later

would be good if you had a 200 tdi stu, how much would you be looking for one?

cheers kieran

Get well soon Pinky! Sad

We've just returned from a trip to the Pyrenees with Shortwayround, Bushpigs and Landroversandwine (teams from LR07 for those who don't know us) to find LRO May on the doormat. Pinky features prominently on p.37 in the Mac 4x4 write up, with a suggestion it should have a pink roof too!

Lu :bom:

There, and I thought Tom had come over to the dark side. The evil, foul smelling oil burners. Well I'll put anything in that will burn, as long as it is cheap. Must admit if I need fuel and I am passing the cash & carry I will go and buy 60 or 80 lts of the foul smelling brew but at 70p a litre it is hard to refuse. Just tip it in and put up with the smell. Don't run on it all the time because TBH I am not sure it is good for the engine and if I am doing some heavy towing I treat it to derv. It does go a bit better on it.
Sounds like you are sorted then Kieran. Best of luck. My advice would be to change the clutch at the same time. I know it is another 70 quid or so but it will be money well spent. You don't want to be lifting the g/box or engine again.
Best of luck with it. Oh! don't forget the clutch fork, tenner a time, they do fail and you would be back to square one again.

That must have been great fun Lu, a great bunch of people!

Don't talk to me about clutch forks LT. I'm still traumatised from the day that as a teenager I replaced a gearbox, engine and clutch on a Ford Escort. When it was all buttoned up the very last job was to hook up the clutch cable, what did I find? I had installed the clutch fork the wrong way around - which meant it was gearbox out again to rectify the cock-up!!! No

never make that mistake again. Embarassed
