| When you say you fitted a straight through exhaust, that's got me thinking. As the back half of my exhaust decided to part company with the Rangie whilst in Holland, I was considering fitting a Cherry Bomb in the middle and large bore stainless to the end. How would this effect the engine? I have a 200Tdi in the RR don't forget, so would it help engine breathing, would it be detrimental, or wouldn't it make any difference at all? V8's are all about 'back pressuse', but with a diesel I have absolutely no idea if a 'straight though' is good or bad. Would it make the motor sound a little better? Essential I reckon ... how sad am I? | |

| Diesels just want to breathe easier - you don't need the acoustically configured exhaust like on a petrol motor. Wider is better, and you don't need to change the fuelling to cope with the different back pressures and resonance.
Putting a cherry bomb in the middle won't generate as much boom as it does on a petrol motor, either, as the turbo absorbs a lot of the energy. You just don't get the sharp wavefronts passing down the pipe.
Personally, I like the sound of a thru pipe on turbo diesels, but you'd probably be disappointed, Tom.

| Shame its in Brid. Fuel-wise its not worth considering, what's more it won't be £20 in a day and a half's time.
As the middle box is still intact, may just fit a pipe to the back and forget about a back box completely. It isn't noisy as it is, so just don't want to do 3,000 miles with toxic gases filtering up through the floor.

| As plans go it ain't a bad plan, and if I had a Disco I might even go for it, but I've decided to go down another avenue; all will be revealed. | |

| A Cherry Bomb's a silencer ... isn't it? The green RR always passed MOT's for me and now Deano. Think it gets complicated when the original vehicle had a CAT, so I'm assuming a CAT would still required for an MOT??? Just guessing though!
Not an issue with a RR Classic, I will have a silencer.

No, you need the sound level to be sufficiently low at the measuring point to pass a sound test, which is 1.2m from the ground, 7m from the vehicle (For MoT or spot test by police). An exhaust pipe that opens directly upward will often satisfy this.
