| Full of questions today!
Canvassing opinion on tents please. We've abandoned the gin place that looks like aliens have landed in preference for a "quick erect" (calm down, Bill). Now can't decide between a pop up or a kyham. Not had experience of either but friends say the pop ups aren't up to the job. Are the kyhams really worth the extra dosh though?
Thoughts please ladies and gents?? Your advice is gratefully received, as always

| Go to yer local Azda store and have a lookie at their tents. Get one thats a wee bitty bigger than ye need. In case it rains then one has a place to dress. Or if yer gonna be using it after the rally then spend some dosh. If no, hit Azda. they also do camping 'packages' We got one thats 2 big really but one that we can sit and dress etc should the climes be bad. they, although not the best in the world should be adequat for what we need. Mind ye, if ye wanna check oot a quick erect sytem well jist fone me. Me web cam,s ready. xxx | |

| Crystal ball time... Will it rain on the Rally???
If not then buy the cheapest tent you can get... If it will rain, then dont!
Seriously. We have a few of the "open zip and self erect" style tents. They are cheap but are also pretty crap! They dont keep much rain out and you wake up damp with condensation - and no its not just me that has the problem!
Id opt to spend a bit more money and get a proper tent that keeps the rain out and can breathe so you wake up all dry and comfy.
Ideally you should buy one of these: http://www.ventureoverland.com/index.php?option=com_rsgallery2&page=slideshow&gid=3&Itemid=55 or one of these: http://www.ventureoverland.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=5&id=15&Itemid=42
...couldnt resist the plug - sorry!! | |

| I bought one of the ASDA jobs for last years rally and woke up in Val d'sere after the thunderstorm with 2 inches of water in the bottom of it. Total cack! (still it was only a fiver).
I have both a Kyham and a Quechua popup.
The Kyham is superb, I've had it for years now and it's never leaked or deformed in high winds. Easy to put up and take down, but quite bulky for storage. Pricey but brill.
As or the popups, DON'T buy the single skin versions (such as the Gelerts on e-bay for £25) as they also leak like a sieve. But the Quechua (and the Outwell) versions are double skin and very weather proof, no leaks in mine so far. Try not to buy them off e-bay as the sellers are putting a HUGE markup on them, instead go to Decathlon, the UK's 'official' Quechua stockists. Unfortunately they only have 6 shops in the country and no mail order service (www.decathlon.co.uk) but you can get the 3" tent (quite large, double skin, etc) for only £24.99, bargain.
Hope this helps.

| We went for the roof tent option then if it rains you are off the ground and it takes like 30 seconds to erect...... the tent i mean It also means that snakes and other bugs ect cant get in either :afro: | |

| Big question what tents, sooo many to choose from, generally you get what you pay for (like most things in life) Unless you are going to spend a fair sum on the pop ups, I would suggest a traditional dome or tunnel tent would be best. We have just bought some for the scout group that are pretty good Vango omega 350 from Go Outdoors http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/5023518600949 These have the Inner attached and pitch in 5min. Loads of space, ali poles. If this does not fit the bill have a look around the "Go Outdoors" site as there are loads of others on there Hope this helps | |

| I'm going with the roof tent simply coz it's already bolted to the roof rack. Will hurt the fuel consumption a bit but that's life. I know someone who got one of the Asda tents and it filled with water as well so stay clear of Asda!! D | |
