| We're taking a 'pop-up' tent this time... because I don't mind sleeping with my teammate this year The Vango was nice and spacious last year, but seemed to take too long to put up every night. For Val d'Isere, we're taking a fan heater (snowed last year). At the other sites it should be warm enough. Just need to shake the condensation out. | |

I have both a Kyham and a Quechua popup.
The Kyham is superb, I've had it for years now and it's never leaked or deformed in high winds. Easy to put up and take down, but quite bulky for storage. Pricey but brill.
As or the popups, DON'T buy the single skin versions (such as the Gelerts on e-bay for £25) as they also leak like a sieve. But the Quechua (and the Outwell) versions are double skin and very weather proof, no leaks in mine so far. Try not to buy them off e-bay as the sellers are putting a HUGE markup on them, instead go to Decathlon, the UK's 'official' Quechua stockists. Unfortunately they only have 6 shops in the country and no mail order service (www.decathlon.co.uk) but you can get the 3" tent (quite large, double skin, etc) for only £24.99, bargain.
Hope this helps.
M.... We had a 2 person Quechua pop up tent last year - it was great for the simple reason that it was up in seconds, which is brilliant when you arrive in the middle of the night! It takes longer to take down though! - but once you get the hang of it it's cool. Come to think of it Al and Jon - how many firemen does it take to put a pop up tent away...............................? Lu :bom:

Well, although it doesn't apply to Landy Rally but back here in the UK, I've finally sussed all this 'too cold to camp' stuff. What's the worst thing about camping? To me it's that hobbile feeling of climing into a freezing cold sleeping bag. Solution? Get yourself an electric blanket! No I'm not joking. They are very low wattage, so run off an inverter it means you'd be as warm as toast. Obviously you wouldn't leave it on all night (I realise most blankets you can leave on nowadays, but you don't want a batt flatery in the morning) but if you did wake up cold in the middle of the night due to a poor sleeping bag, then a couple of minutes boost with the electric blanket would have you back in the land of nod in no time at all. Cushty! See, I'm not barking. Well, not completely anyway!

| I think there could be a bit of a niche market for 12v leccy blankets from the sound of things..........Any budding inventors here??? 24V version for lorry drivers would be good aswell........Save fuel on the night heater and all that | |
