| Thanks for the call Steve (Shortwayround). See you Friday. Abingdon was good, but even better was London-Brighton Land Rover Run. So many Landies and flags! Interest in Landy Rally amazing. Lots of folk out there wish they had done it this year, but a combination of time off work and finances prevented them this time around, but next year will be a different story ... and you lot will be old hands. Anyway, off to the rub-a-dub now to see a live band. BTW, thanks to all who helped this weekend (the gazebo, the boards, etc. - you know who you are) as your assistance was greatly apprecited. | |

| Really good to see everyone who came down to Abingdon over the weekend. Really good to see people looking rested.....
Also hope 4x4 bun didn't mash her shiny new Disco too badly. Although, it was a very good effort!
Hope to see you all again soon.

| Crafty cow! 4x4Bun sold her half-mangled one-spotlighted valance (complete with Abingdon mud I assume) to some naïve more-money-than-sense dipstick at Brighton. Apparently she’s putting the cash towards a Disco winch bumper or similar.
London-Brighton BTW was good. We were joined by a guy called Martin Rider who works for Arbil - winches, recovery gear, etc - who turned up Saturday night in the company vehicle ... a rather neat-looking Camel Discovery! This was the UK team vehicle on the Mongolia event. Martin really wanted to compete in Landy Rally this year, but lack of commercial sponsorship (i.e. finance) meant that he'll be joining in the fun next year now instead. Anyway, a good bloke who'll fit right into our little event.
In all, having been joined by Andy & Mandy Sparks of "Team Sparks Will Fly", the "Night Owls" Team (see my post in LR2007 about the 'missing teams') and more Thames Valley 4x4 Club members, just our convoy amounted to 10 vehicles! Most had CB's, and for the others I had with me some small hand-held radios I could distribute. All in all a darn good day.
Put another way, after Abingdon the previous day on the 'Landy Rally Club stand', a very good weekend all 'round!

| Yeah cheers guys,
Why was I laying on the wet grass, under my Landy, at 0030hrs discussing an oil leak with a bloke I had never met before, whilst attempting to keep my beer upright and blocking out Mandy's shouts of "What are you bloody doing, Erin (our 6yr Old) is asleep in the wagon" It all seemed so natrual at the time.
Why, when there is a drivers briefing at 0830hrs do people get up at 0500hrs ??? In the dark ????? on a Sunday. (Not Tom obviously)
Oh, and how do rockets get to the moon ???????????????
Good run, thanks again | |

| Hi Guys, glad to say my Landy was not too badly mashed up at Abingdon! But that's what happens when you attempt a well worn mud run at 4pm when every other mud-plugger has attempted it before you! And yes I did sell the front valance at Brighton.....Jake of Devon 4x4 needed one, and it's not actually busted, just slightly out of kilter Shortwayround Steve offered me an A-frame for the front, so I'm all sorted! Great to see everyone at Abingdon, shame there weren't many stalls, but the off road course was rather good L2B was an experience, not sure how many Landy's there were in total, but I'm guessing over 500?! I quite liked the D-Lander (Disco chassis wth a Freelander body), and the kiddies Tug-A-Landy Can't wait to do it next year - Landrover's 60th Birthday bash, and the L2B 10th anniversary, should be a good crack!! | Hi all, My 1st post on here, so a little intro... I missed the Landy Rally this year but have plans to do it next year, so have joined the forum. Being a TV4x4 club member I do know a few who participated tho, so heard all (well, some!) of the stories...!! Nice to meet a few of you Landy Rally lot at Abingdon (briefly) and L2B this weekend, seem like a great lot and looking forward to next years event! The run down to Brighton was great fun, great banter over the CB's is half the fun! Lots of flags, waving and horn tooting... brilliant!! Tom, thanks for leading our little convoy through London on sat evening, showing us the "sights" (well, you got to see them even if the rest of us didn't.... other than the photo!!! "Follow that limo....") Oh, and thanks for the J.D's on sat evening!! 4x4 Bun, great to see your not-so-shiny new Disco, looked very smart under the mud!! I was booking number 781 for the run and guess the numbers started at 0 (think there were 800+ last year so would be about right!)... they will probably put numbers on the website soon. All the best, hope to meet some more of you soon! Nat | |

| Hi and welcome to our little forum Nat. Interesting, you didn't mention that you were thinking of entering Landy Rally next year - or did you? How many JD's did I have, only a couple of swigs surely? The meal in Crystal Palace was ace, good food, good company, it certainly makes it all worthwhile.
As for the CB banter ... mmmmmm. With all that driving through London. did you have a "Rawhide"? And that Crystal Palace TV/radio mast, I would say it looked a bit like the Tower Eifel - but nothing compared to the "eyefull" I was presented with as I passed that limo! Heeeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa, don't get many of those to the pound! :cyclops: :cyclops: | |

| Aye the C'tain's back, spouting bulwarks as usual. If you saw what i saw, you'd be perving too. I even have the photographic evidence. Not for public consumption, when I find out how to download photos off my digital camera I'll email you 'the' limo photo. Anyhow, you recovered from the Scally Rally yet? How did it go as I didn't have a chance at the Cafe de Paris to ask? And will you do it again or instead join our leisurely bash next September for some real team spirit? (and for once I'm not talking about JD). Of what I remember the Scally lads are okay, but our mob are 1st class. The Go-faster-stripes-brigade or off-roaders - NO CONTEST! | |
