Manby Land Rover Show 27-29 June 2008

Who's up for the most friendly Land Rover show of the lot?

Well I say Land Rover Show, but there will be other 4x4's there as well, so don't let that hold you back. Truly 'run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts', my mate Cheyne will be running the Manby MUD RUN sponsored by
Mobile Storage Systems. With prizes for the most entertaining & fastest mud run, this is always good for a laugh.

Another atraction is the Yellow Belly Time Trial sponsored by Difflock 4x4. Open to all 4x4’s this is also worth watching, as being against the clock, they tend to do daft things simply to get around in the fastest time.

Last year we had a decent turn out of Landy Rally entrants, let's try and emulate that again if possible. Hopefully see you there if the Rangie makes it back in one piece after the recce.

As a footnote, this show has the best/cheapest food out of the lot. Never mind bland burgers, this lot have a kitchen which serves up proper meals, so please support this event if you can. Check it out at http://www.lrshow.co.uk

might pop over on the saturday but have to be in long eaton on sunday for a course would fancy a go on the off road course but gotta give it a miss as i need to be able to use it on sunday as the rest of the monstars are off down south so theres nobody else to drive me round if i break lol (well kieran and simon)

Things have been hectic up here but settling down now so hopefully get some time to leave a few more posts!!!
I've got camping tickets booked for the weekend so definately coming to this one. Looking forward to meeting up with some of you guys if you're there. Tom hope the recce goes to plan and you make it up for Saturday

All being well the 110 is booked in for Thursday 26th for the full vehicle livery to be applied advertising Landy Rally '08 ........fingers crossed!!!

David - don't know if we talked about it previously, but the font used for the wording Landy Rally European Charity Drive (the same as the leterheading in your confirmation letter - and the top of this forum and the event website for that matter!) is a standard Word font called Papyrus.

If you can repeat this within your livery it would be good as folk now recognise this as text of Landy Rally, but if it doesn't fit in with what you have in mind, then so be it. Your machine at the end of the day, you jazz it up as you see fit.

Already sorted....copy and pasted the logo from the website to find out what font it needed to be so they have been told...or asked that was!!!! It's going to appear in the proper font on both sides, the bonnet and the rear door so will hopefully look okay

Yeah, we'll be there... Dont know our stand number yet... We now have some 6.5m flags though, so you should be able to see us from miles away!!

Really, could be ineresting give the wind up at Manby. I'll keep an ear open for the shipping news about a pair of VentureOverland flags attacking shipping in the Humberside Estuary.

flag are the least of my worries... Its the marquee that seems to fly well!!!

Yes, forgot about that. You need those whacking great spikes like they used to use on old style canvas marquees, the type they drove in with a jack hammer. That and about twenty heavy duty ratchet straps capable of lashing down a sub station's 60 ton transformer - that'll do the trick. Mind you, it may look as if you've captured Gulliver, but it should stay put overnight!

Not that you need any encouragement ... yes, but only if you are dressed in character in the beer tent Saturday night! Gonna know loads of folk there so it'll be a riot.

am definately going to manby, not been there before, was thinking of going friday afternoon/evening time and stopping the night, do we have to book in advance or just turn up and look for a place to throw a tent up?? (would be put up but i cant read)

Just turn up, there's loads of space. As I won't be there to shepherd my flock, it's up to you mob to create a line-up of vehicles. I would suggest trying to park facing the tarmac roadway, the one as you come in, and camp behind the vehicles.

Alternatively and even better, if VentureOverland have enough space alongside their trade stand, that would be ace. With so much space available this is entirely possible, so early birds should see Jon at VO first before pitching tents, etc. I shouldn't mind Jon would mind a display alongside, quite the opposite in fact. Arrive earlier the better I would think.

How about phoning Jon tomorrow to see if he has space alongside? That way he can see the organisers upon arrival and maybe allocate space for us. I can think of six vehicles minimum, hopefully more ... it's up to you entirely.

As for space - I THINK the organisiers are having a bit of a different arrangement with stand layouts this year (more organised!!).

I'll speak to them when I get there on Thursday and try to get them to get us some more space...in the name of charity!!

£35 advance booking for camping,
£50 on the gate

Looking at fri eve or sat am. Last year we were escorted to our designated camping spot...

Get booked up in advance and save yourself some cash...

Andybloke dont be a cheap skate!!! Consider yourself lucky that you dont need to buy a pitch!!!! Now that is something to winge about...

It's the usual annoying show booking thing. That's £35 for 2 adults, and 5 nights camping, where I'm only 1 adult staying for 2 nights...

fair point about the number of nights etc...

weve had a turn of events here in that the event in bournemouth is sponsored by volvo and dont like the idea of land rovers being there, i will be at manby

im marshalling the car park at 9 - 10 on sunday morning so please dont turn up then

Looks like I'll be driving over in the van again.

Paddocks have helpfully sent, by express delivery, half a set of shock absorbers. Don't fancy driving the A15 with only 3 shocks installed.
