| MMM, difficult. It's about all LR is. As stated in the intro it is definitly not a sight-seeing tour. But the roads itself deliver great amounts of fine vieuws. Thats what you have to do with. Glad you liked it. Would be great to have you with us again. Btw please talk to Tom, I'm sure he can arrange some menus specially designed to suit you. Would be so much more fun for you as for us. | |

| I loved it. It was my sort of trip, i wasnt to keen on the camping, but after getting home. I thought to myself it wasnt that bad really. Apart from Val d sere. Now that was cold. I did tell craig from day one that this was NO holiday. I shall be there next year if im allowed and if i can find a co-driver | |

| Would be nice to have the SJ again. maybe you should try to find yourself an old armysleepingbag. We had one and really didn't have any trouble with temperature in Val d'Isere. Since this was the 2e time we've done the Rally and the 2e time we woke up with a frozen tent, I suppose this normal overthere. Better be prepared ( don't forget to change your brakeoil) | |

| As Val d'Isere is a holiday village they probably have a hotel there. My worst issue with Val d'Isere was trying to have a shower before daylight ! I'd just got undressed when the light went out fortunately Dilys arrived and came to my rescue ! But then as I finished my shower the lights went out again ! This time there was nobody around ! We took an old thick blanket with us. It only got used at Val D'Isere !! But then the first year we stayed there it snowed during the night. Followed by a very noisy thunderstorm which washed the snow away ! then as Jaap said the tent froze last year. It was fine when we went to the shower block but had frozen by the time we got back. Its well worth stopping there for the early morning drive over Col d'Iseran. | |

| It defintly is a nice drive in the early morning. Still the damps coming out of the valley, your circling up a mountain. halfway there is a stop. Marvalous vieuw on the site you drove the day before and camp while freezing. Not the baddest way to start the day. ( not even with a hangover) | |

| A hangover ... surely not? First time I drove that route out of Val d’Isére I said to myself, "the teams are going to love this", and you know what? I've been saying the same thing every time. For me it's one of the highs - LOVE IT! Also, and the Johnsons will confirm this, we've never had bad weather during the day off-roading at Val d’Isére (the sun has always been shining), and the same could be said of the morning after. Doubtless this would account for the drastic drop in temperature overnight. Rather it be that way than miserable during the day and warm and dry at night. Note to Tom 1: Let teams in 2011 know that it's advisable to take additional bedding as it can get cold overnight at Val!
Note to Tom 2: Let teams in 2011 know that it's advisable to take a waterproof torch to the showers at Camping Richards as the lights expire halfway through shower + before drying.
Note to Tom 3: Let teams in 2011 know that it's advisable to drive an SJ around the 3,000 mile route if they sufer from a bad back.

Certainly. We left in fog, went the wrong way, turned around, passed lots of teams also going the wrong way, passed the campsite 90 minutes after we'd first set off, then the fog cleared in time as we made our way up the valley - superb scenery. If we'd turned right the first time we'd have taken the correct route but missed the scenery.

| Pleased that fate was on your side so you managed to savour the stunning scenery, but how did you, and others it seems, manage that amazing feat of navigation? There is only one solitary road that passes through Val d’Isčre, and everyone knew the plan was to head south to Andorra via the South of France.
Extract from the Roadbook:-
Leaving the campsite, exit Val d’Isčre on the D902 south (notice there's a recurring theme here) direction Lanslebourg Mont-Cenis via Col de l’Iseran/Bonneval-sur-Arc/Bessans.
Bearing in mind (no pun intended) you had a compass on board, how on earth did you manage to end up heading north???

You do travel on the road south overall but on the first turn out of the campsite you could be confused as it north-east and the wrong direction is south west for a short distance

| In 2007 we had to drive to Andorra from Val d'Isere so we left at 6am ! We enjoyed a drive up the Col d'Iseran using the spot lights. I remember it very clearly. But only realised what we had missed last year when the sun was rising as we set out ! | |

| Must say the rising sun gave me some troubles seeing the road. Since my windows weren't really clear anymore after Val dÍsere, half of the road I still was driving in a fog | |

| I'm yet to find out where the Press Release about LR`11 being 'the last Landy Rally' has appeared, but obviously it has as over the weekend I have had a team of two vehicles wanting to book up immediately, plus a seperate team wanting to do likewise, plus another interested party who wanted to join us in 2012! Needless to say he is disappointed to hear the news whereas the others are delighted they have found the event before it's too late. It appears interest is still as high as ever! | |
