| I belive it is a good decission, as said it is a long push to Calais, but if some people wish thay can do as Ricky did and miss the off roading and carry on so next day, not so far to go. So ti will give people a choice, start is also a good one, imho, just a sugestion don't no if it can be done how about one more country thinking of Monaco, may be to much leave to you. | |

| Nice idea Yoda, but I think this is a step too far! Believe me, I seriously considered this option before and have always kept this back as a 'trump card' so to speak, but unfortunately it is a bit too much.
As opposed to Val d’Isere direct to Marsellian Plage, going to Monaco would add 2 hours / 126 miles on the journey, plus an additional £24 in toll charges. I also considered going via the Millau Viaduct, but this is even further and too costly.
See for yourself:-
JOURNEY: Val d’Isere – Gap – Orange – Marsellian Plage
TIME: 7 hrs 17 mins
DISTANCE: 340 miles (of which 164 miles are on motorways)
TOLLS: £17
or
JOURNEY: Val d’Isere – Cuneo – Monaco – Marsellian Plage
TIME: 9 hrs 18 mins
DISTANCE: 466 miles (of which 309 miles are on motorways)
TOLLS: £38
or
JOURNEY: Val d’Isere – Chanac – Le Massegros – Millau Viaduct – Marsellian Plage
TIME: 11 hrs 06 mins
DISTANCE: 407 miles (of which 97 miles are on motorways)
TOLLS: £10 | |

| That's simple Sylvia, on Day 4 simply leave 4 hours 11 minutes before everyone else and your wish will be granted! And if anyone calls me a fairy ... | |

| Tom I think you've heard part of the story of my first expedition to the Pyrenees. We broke down at the end of the first week. We were headed to Ribes de Freser where there is a mountain cog railway. Anyway we ended uo in Huesca for most of the second week instead of travelling back through France where we had stops planned at Carcasonee Millau and Le Mans. Since then I've passed two of those places on Landy Rally but not had time to stop but not managed to get to anywhere near Millau ...... I think Brian managed to find Millau in his Range Rover last year..... His interpretation of the road book was very different to ours and Dean and Helen's ...... | |

| I think Brian's interpretation of the road book of life is very different to yours, Dean and Helen's, mine ...... Never did figure out why his connection was with Shrek? No problemo Andybloke, we'll see is we can't devise a cunning plan. | |

| Never mind Sylvia, been on the bridge of Milau, it is a nice one but not worth the miles. Better look at the pics on the net. You'll never see it that way when driving on it | |

| I'm just looking at Tom's timings to get to Marseillian Plage from Val d'Isere ! 7hrs and 17 minutes ! Correct me if I'm wrong Yoda but did we leave Val d'Isere about 7.30 am ? And did we get to the beach at about 8.30pm ? that makes 13 hours by my calculations. Does Tom not need a stop for fuel, toilets, and lunch on route ? Better not go to Millau as that adds another 4 1/4 hours onto the journey (Tom time) We'd be arriving after 3am ! | |

| Fair enough, 7hrs and 17 minutes is the fastest route possible - basically virtually all boring autoroute with lots of toll charges. The roadbook via the picturesque Rhone Valley towards Orange was with more nationals, slower and less tolls, 'cause that's the way we like it. | |

| I like the idea of driving over the viaduc thing. scared of heights though. Dates and start and arrival plans look good Tom. Shame Paris is so mental. Silly question but are we bypassing Paris altogether? Im not too good on european navigation. (interesting landyrally for me) James | |

James I agree, by all accounts the viaduct looks far better on paper than actually driving being there. It's a big bridge after all. It looks brilliant, but that's about it. Paris won't be in the roadbook, but over the years several teams have 'called in' to Paris en route to Calais. Mind you, whether thse have all been intended is another matter entirely. Even I got suckered into listening to my Sat Nav one year and ended up unintentionally driving around the outskirts of Paris. Can't beat following the roadbook's instructions coupled with your co-driver reading the map and direction signs, together they will get you there the quickest, easiest and cheapest way possible. Honestly, whether you've done it before or not, it really is a piece of cake.

| Im glad i done paris, but i dont think id do it again. Driving in Paris was a complete nightmare, but i wanted to get a photo of my zuke at the effiel tower...Its a shame the leaning tower of pisa was so far away. The dates look great for next year. I just need a new co-driver as craig would never do it again, but then i would also love to ship my zuke to the usa and do route 66 | |

Still don't think you have grasped the concept of ... Suzuki SJ + 6' 3" driver = Uncomfortable Nissan Navara + 6' 3" driver = Comfortable Is the 'Un' part confusing you?

Is the 'Un' part confusing you? No Tom but the SJ is my baby. Even more so as they dont make them anymore and you hardly see any on the british roads anymore. I like to be diffrent. I had SJs since 1989 they part of my life

| Can understand that. We're just fools too; driving a very loud, uncomfartable Landrover. Nevertheless I can see other people can't understand it at all. What wonders us most is the contrast between your format and that of the SJ. Admire the way you take the hardship on you though. | |

| It got round the trip. I got round the trip and my back survived better than i thought it would. infact it hurt less in the 10 days i was away that what it does now. My little zuke could make the trip again, but it would be nice to see how it compares against the navara | |

| Wasn't depending on the car then? What made him say this? Just the hours of driving or is there something else? Organisation can always benefit from this comments. | |
